WBCといえば・・
昨日の興奮はまだ冷めていないようです。今日もＴＶでは一日中、WBCで世界一になった王JAPANの活躍ぶりを報道していました。
“WBC”といっても、少し前までは知らない人も多かったことでしょうね。多少知っていても、正しい名称を答えられる方はあまりおられなかったはずです。「ワールド・ベースボール・クラシック」がそれですが、私も「・・チャンピオン」と思っていたくらいですから。（今年始まったばかりなのに「クラシック」とは？？）
視聴率も、最高56％だったとか。これも準決勝戦をさらに上回り、驚異の数字です。本当に日本中が、テレビに釘付けになっていたんですね！（放映中に買い物に行く用があったのですが、休日なのにスーパーは確かにガラガラでした）
ところで“WBC”というと、医療関係者はきっと他のものを思う浮かべると思います。「ホワイト・ブラッド・セル（white blood cell）」の略。つまり白血球です。毎日のように検査をしたり、その数字を見て患者さんの容態を調べたりしているので、ずっと馴染みがあります。
野球の試合中なのに、テレビの画面を見たり、アナウンサーの話の途中に“違和感”を感じていたのですが、どうもこの“WBC”という略号が、その原因のようです。
でも、これからしばらくは、患者さんの検査データを見るたびに、野球のことや、イチロー選手、王監督などの顔を思い出すことになりそうですよ(*^_^*)
