薄着のすすめ（5）
薄着は“ダイエット”になるという話をします。
“ダイエット”とは書きましたが、正しくは「減量」または「体重適正化」です。
英語で“diet”と言えば「栄養」のことですので、日本人のもっているイメージとは違います。
でも、ここでは日本人的イメージのダイエットの話です。
ダイエットの基本は摂取カロリーの制限。
過食や偏食により過度の食事カロリーをとっている場合には、それを少なくしなくてはいけません。
そうするだけで、ある程度のダイエットはできるでしょう。
しかし、過度の食事制限（カロリー制限）をすると、体の基礎代謝がカロリーをあまり使わないで良いようにスイッチを切り替えます。
いわば「倹約」です。
ひとたびそうなってしまうと、カロリー制限をしているのに、思うような体重減少ができなかったり、適正な体重を維持できなかったりしがちになります。
比較的少量のカロリー摂取でも「効率的に」燃焼されるので、リバウンドも起きやすい状態になります。
こういった問題がおきてくるのは、基礎代謝のレベルが生命活動にとってとても大切だからです。
さらに、基礎代謝のそうとう大きい部分は、体温の維持に関わっています。
一定の体温（おおむね36度C台）に維持するために、大きなエネルギーを消費しています。
子どもたちの平熱が大人よりも高めだということは、裏返せばそれだけ多くのエネルギーを使っているからです。
基礎代謝が常時活発であれば、消費カロリーが多めになりますので、自然と体温は高めになっていきます。
子どもにとっては、余分な熱が放出するために「薄着」でいる必要があるということは、これまでにお話してきたとおりです。
今日はもう少し論をすすめて、大人の話。
体温を高めるためにそうとう大きなカロリーが使われます。
手元の資料では、冷水（4度C）4リットルを体温まで高めるためには約400カロリーを必要とするとあります。
つまり、冷たいものを多くとることで、ダイエットになるということです。
摂取するものが甘いものなどではそれ自体にカロリーがあるので、ダイエットにはなりません。
でも、冷水を多く飲むことは、体の老廃物を排出するなど、他にも良い効果がいろいろあるようです。
そして、やはり「薄着」です。
体表面を低めの温度にさらすことで、体の中の代謝は、より熱を作ろうとして高まっていきます。
逆に厚着をすると、熱は必要ないので、代謝は下がります。
この差は、けっこう大きいものがあります。
ダイエットというと、体の表面を厚く覆って、汗をダラダラかくということを想像しがちかもしれません。
でもそれは逆効果。
寒い季節こそ薄着でいることが大切なんです。
その上で、適度な運動をして体を温めましょう。
それが健康のためにも良いことです。
